For my 100th post, here’s an ultra-rare behind the scenes photo of a Jean Rollin project that never got finished. It’s from a French film magazine that only ran 3 issues. The project was filmed sometime around 1999 under the working titles of Le coeur brisé (The Broken Heart) and Le chambre du vampire (The Room of the Vampire) but only the scene above got filmed before the project was abandoned altogether. Very little information can be found about it, it’s not even listed on IMDb! If only it got completed, the set looks decadent.
Apparently, the story is about a vampire named Jean who falls in love with a mortal girl named Elise. The two have a passionate relationship but eventually, Elise falls for another man named Jean-Marc. Elise’s manipulative mother Claudine (who was apparently meant to be played by Brigitte Lahaie) complicates matters further. At the end of the film, Jean goes on a rampage, destroying his room and planning on biting Elise and her lover. But his conscience takes over and he decides to commit suicide via a silver bullet.
(Excerpt of the script)
Elise: Je peux pas parler maintenant.
Jean: Pourquoi, Elise? Pourquoi, Elise? S’il te plait parle moi. S’il te plait! Tu fais partie de ma vie. Tu es tout. Je ne pourrais pas continuer sans toi, Elise.
Elise: Tu me fais peur.
Jean: Tu mens! Je ne t’ai jamais cognée! Tu déchires mon coeur, Elise!
